Is Yogi the Sage for the Age?

Deja vu all over again? After being hustled, sold a bill of goods, taken to the cleaners, or choose your own favorite cliche, into a war of aggression in Iraq with the dead and dying there mounting to Saddam proportions (who gets tried for these war crimes, or doesn't the Saddam trial seem macabre in the present circumstances?) we seem headed inexorably to a war of aggression against Iran. Our "free and independent" press has no memory, it seems, and the warmongers are steamrolling us once again. And the "loyal" opposition, Hilary et al., are falling over themselves to join the fight. If Martians landed here they'd no doubt leave lickety-split when they saw the big bully of the world and how it treats its own species. In their efforts to extend the control of the investing class and increase their wealth even more, Bush and his string-pullers will slash and burn as much of the earth as takes their fancy. It's a custom-made scene: a President on a religious crusade.

Do you suppose the reason that the Cheney energy task force was kept secret was because they included discussions of taking over the oil world and divvying up the spoils? If we survive the new Reich will historians fifty years from now consider the Bush II regime the most corrupt in our history? That the corporate state that is America is so fiendishly cruel and domineering may end up a footnote to history but the acquiescence of the populace and its town criers is mind boggling. I know that most of us don't like the way things are going but that so many, in the intellectual elite, are so submissive to power is astonishing. That opinion makers can be so complicit with the regime shows that they are either stupid or evil. That's something I thought back in the Reagan years and they've only gotten worse. Maybe that's why local communities should control their own schools: the "educated" can't be trusted with education.

The US has invaded other countries regularly for the past 40 years so it would be equally stupid to expect them to stop now. I don't know about democracies making war on each other but if the US is a democracy it's proof that one democracy can be as intolerant, inhumane and aggressive as the worst tyrants of ancient history.
